The term "people of colour" is a near "given" in anti-racist discourse, and is generally taken to constitute a "non-racist" alternative to its allegedly "racist", and historically antecedent, equivalent, viz. "coloured people". Crucially, the term "people of colour" is held to stand in a contrasting relation to another term, "White", as foreground (visible, manifest) stands to background (invisible, hidden), respectively.
