Peace Be Unto Those Who Follow Right Guidance.
In what follows, I should like to offer a few brief comments on what I understand to be a common misconception about the nature of 'racism' among some of my fellow Muslim mujahideen (strugglers) against Racism (White Supremacy). I shall take as my starting point the following quotation from an article appearing on the Black Lion blog. The article is entitled "Importance of Baraa Against Racism" and the quote is as follows:
African Lion, who I thank for designing my logos, and I agree that Muslims are the most racist on the planet right now, and that Muslims are specifically most prejudiced against Black people. Many Blacks think so, not just us.
As readers of articles featured on this blog along with Muslim counter-racists will be aware, a Muslim CANNOT be a racist since the ONLY racists that can FUNCTION as racists are Racists (White Supremacists). White Supremacy (Racism) is an unjust system (MILLAT or DEEN) that is the dominant manifestation of TAAGHOOT in the contemporary world. Since the DEEN of a Muslim is AL-ISLAM, a Muslim CANNOT, by definition, be a Racist (White Supremacist) even if he was classified (by those who self-classify as 'White') as 'White'. (NB: Not every person classified as 'White' is a White Supremacist although every White Supremacist is necessarily a 'White' person.) If a person classified as 'White' is practicing unjust discrimination - that is, Racism (White Supremacy) - he or she CANNOT, at least during the period that they are practicing such discrimination, BE a Muslim; rather, they are a Racist (White Supremacist). In short, one cannot be both a Muslim and a Racist (White Supremacist) at the SAME TIME. As God/Allah (swt) has stated in The Qur'an [=The Proclamation to Humanity],
(33:4) God/Allah did NOT give any man TWO hearts in his chest.
Basic to the DEEN (power-relation and life-transaction) of Al-Islam is TAWHEED which is expressed in the credal statement: "La ilaaha ill'Allah" (There is NO ultimate authority/god EXCEPT God/Allah). In this connection, God/Allah (swt), consider also the following:
(16:51) And God/Allah has said, "Take not two gods/ultimate authorities. There is only One God. So Me, only Me, shall you fear."
But what about the 'racism' referred to in the above cited blog article, a 'racism' practiced by those who the system of White Supremacy (Racism) classifies as 'Non-White' and who self-classify as Muslim? Such 'racism' is COMPLEXIONISM or COLOURISM, a form of unjust discrimination (prejudice) that is practiced by 'Non-White' people against other 'Non-White' people based on colour and/or factors of colour. Colourism (or Complexionism) stands in a SUB-SYSTEMIC power-relation to the SYSTEM of Racism (White Supremacy).
However, both the SYSTEM of Racism (White Supremacy) and the SUB-SYSTEM of Complexionism (or COlourism) are unjust and should - must - be replaced with Justice (Al-'Adl w'al-Qisth' w'al-ihsaan=Al-Islam).
Peace
