Peace Be Unto Those Who Follow Right Guidance

Recently, I had an opportunity to read "From Orientalism To Occidentalism. And Beyond.", a short paper by Egyptian philosopher, Hassan Hanafi, which was presented at the Beyond Orientalism and Occidentalism: Thinking Dialogue among Civilizations conference which took place on March 4-6 2006 in Cairo, Egypt.(The paper is available online here as well as here and here.)

The objective of the conference was "translating and understanding each other to isolate radicalism" and was jointly organised by Reset Dialogues on Civilizations (whose board of governors are all Europeans [=white]) and the Supreme Council of Culture, Cairo - 'supreme', yet not Supremacist (sic). (As a side note, it's interesting how non-white so-called Muslim victims of White Supremacy (Racism) make use of the adjective 'supreme' in designating 'their' various institutional structures. Consider, for example, the Supreme Council of The Islamic Revolution [Iran], the Supreme Council for Petroleum an Mineral Affairs [Saudi Arabia], the Supreme Council for Family Affairs [Libya], the Supreme Judicial Council [Pakistan], and, the even ISCA - the Islamic Supreme Council of North America.)

Hanafi's 'occidentalist' project has been subjected to some rather severe criticism from Arab so-called 'intellectuals' and in this blog article I intend to examine the issue from a counter-racist perspective.
